Eddie the Entomologist!!

Last Thursday we had a very special visitor! Eddie the Entomologist sent us letters throughout our unit on insects to help us learn about bugs. Thursday he came to personally deliver our official entomologist badges. He read Waiting for Wings, by Lois Ehlert and answered student questions. The kids were SOOOO excited! Thanks Eddie!!

Botanica Field Trip!

It was a beautiful day for adventure. We learned all about monarch butterflies. My students talked about migration and can even tell a male from a female butterfly! What an awesome learning experience!

Explorers!!

After Botanica we began getting up close and personal with our bugs as we caught insects for our upcoming bug museum.

My How Time Flies!

These last few weeks have flown by! We have been busy learning many new things in our Daily Five reading. Here are a few pics...
This is "Mr. Checkin," he helps us remember to check for understanding as we read.

We talked about how to choose a "Good Fit" book! The kids cracked up at Miss Stucky's shoe choices! :)

Have your child explain and use the 5 finger rule to choose books!

We are getting so close to reaching our Reading Stamina goal!! Yay!!

Me on the Map!

Today, we read Me on the Map, by Joan Sweeney, we are working on booklets where we put ourselves on our own maps! Project and topic pics to come!

Mad Max

This is our new friend, Mad Max, he exploded on us after we shared things that make us mad. Then we talked about better self-control strategies so we don't explode!!! (This idea was from Teacher Tipster, if you haven't googled his videos you should asap!)

JITTER JUICE!

Last week we brainstormed what would be in Jitter Juice, read a poem, and then tasted this yummy drink. We graphed who liked and disliked the juice...and WHEW! All 18 reported that they liked it! I felt like quite the cook! :)

First Full Day!

After reading Chrysanthemum, by Kevin Henkes, we started our first name celebration. We chanted, cheered and whispered a child's name. Each week a new student will be drawn and the class will complete an awesome packet by http://carriedawayink.blogspot.com/. To continue our name exploration we used a bar graph to show the number of letters in our name.
