We are math NERDS!!

We had so much fun doing this math estimation exploration freebie from Amy Lemons! We shook our Nerd boxes and made our best guesses using our number sense and what we know about the world around us. Then it was time to count! Once students had the actual number they practiced second grade mental strategies to add and subtract 1, 10, and 100.

We LOVE Spookley!

Our books to finish out this crazy spooky week! :)

We read Spookley and talked about the moral of a story. We learned that "We can't judge a book or a pumpkin by its cover." Then we wrote about why we are each unique! :)

A little comparing and contrasting to finish out the day!

Even Monsters Need Haircuts!

After reading the story Even Monsters Need Haircuts by, Matthew McElligott, we made our own monsters! Students wrote stories about their own character's haircut adventure!

Frankenpudding!!!

Today we made Frankenpudding! We used temporal words to record the steps as we worked and then used our senses to continue working on adjectives and description words! So much fun! :)
Resources and ideas from http://thefirstgradeparade.blogspot.com!  (This pack is an AWESOME freebie!)

It's Fall!!

We completed the hallway for parent teacher conferences with fun and festive candy corn characters. Students created their own candy corn and wrote a narrative.

We have been learning all about pumpkins and their life cycle. We floated pumpkins, cut them open and diagramed them!

After we learned all about pumpkins we just had to do some taste testing! I whipped up some cookies and we cooked up some awesome adjectives! :)

Reading Fluency Karaoke Style!

This summer I was helping my parents clean out our old game closet and I found a treasure...my old karaoke machine!! My mother, the most AMAZING teacher I know, suggested that I use the machine to help my students practice reading fluency. It has been a wonderful addition to our MTSS time and perfect motivation to help my students practice and perform 2-part scripts. We are loving it!! :)

Insect Museum

Last Friday was our classroom Insect Museum. Students each researched an insect and created a habitat to share with parents and visitors. What an awesome day! We also had some yummy bug soup snacks! (A pic of the ingredient poem is below!)

Leaf Animals

We have been working on temporal words (first, next, then, last) in our writing. To practice this skill we needed some characters, so we made some leaf animals. My students are so creative! They couldn't wait to write all about the creatures they made!
